At the intersection of Tianping Lu and Zhaojiabang Lu stands numerous industrial buildings. At this intersection stands a unique industrial structure, a tall chimney, that offers a unique opportunity to keep a reminder of the pas usage of the site. Maintained and enhance with proper lighting and adequate landscape treatment this element has the power to become a beacon of the industrial era. This area would serve as a main entrance to the garden. It also serves as the integration of the allegorical use of the old plan of the city.

The allegory

At the main entrance a reflecting water basin stands as the beginning of the allegory. It reflects the beacon of the industrial era and it cascades in the garden towards a river of flowers that interconnects all the elements of the plan. Slightly lower, the river of flowers flows in the garden. From the main entrance, a main path moves inside the garden in a very gentle slope going upwards. This path becomes a bridge that overlooks the river of flowers and the garden of the old town.

The simple and elegant garden of the "old town" is inspired by archaeological digs. It is built with old pavings, small shrubs and groundcovers. It serves as a passive garden for meditation and relaxation.

Underground parking

As requested by the leaders of the district, an underground parking for cars and bicycles is integrated in the park design.

Conclusion

The proposed design scheme is inspired from the site and fulfils the ecological and cultural sustainable development principles that the city puts forward in all its undertakings. It would strongly contribute to the beautification of the city and its international status as a leader in excellent design.
