YanAn ZhongLu Park

Yanan Zhong Lu Park is situated at the cross roads of Yanan and North South expressways.

It is at a strategic point in the downtown core of the city, a few steps aways from the Civic Centre.

The park is with the limits of three districts: Huangpu, Luwan and Jinghan.

Following an International Competition in the fall of 1999, the proposal put forward by WAA - Williams, Asselin, Ackaoui et associés inc. from Montreal, Canada was chosen as the best design.

Construction of this 21 ha park was undertaken from January 2000 to July 2001.

Awards - Recognition

This project has received the Canadian Society of Landscape Architect's National Honour Design Award in 2002, for the high quality of its design.

The City of Shanghai has honoured Vincent Asselin from WAA with its highest award given to a foreigner for its contribution to the city, THE MAGNOLIA SILVER MEDAL in 2001.


A . Objectives pertaining to the Design.

The development of this major park in the downtown area of Shanghai is guided by the following objectives.

  • Maximise green space in the City of Shanghai
  • Reduce dust
  • Clean and purify air
  • Add comfort to citizens and visitors by integrating plants
  • Allow interesting and various experiences in a new urbanscape
  • Provide an urbanscape that is durable and meets international standards

These objectives shall guide all the aspects of the Design Development stage, and shall be integrated in the working drawings and construction stages of the project.
