Project Narrative
Known across China for its pristine and elegant beauty, Harbin’s famed Sun Island has been immortalized in Chinese song and poem for centuries. Respecting the site’s rich history and Chinese garden tradition, WAA’s rehabilitation plan upgrades many of the park’s existing thematic gardens, while adding several new spaces including contemporary play areas, sports fields, floral gardens as well as an improved water network. The design succeeds in enhancing the park’s four-season appeal, and remains active throughout the year, including during the frigid winter months when it plays host to the world-renowned Harbin Snow and Ice Festival.
