Project Narrative
This large, contemporary urban park – the first in the City of Taiyuan – aims to reconnect visitors with their natural environment. The large retention pond in the centre of the park serves as its anchoring point upon which an abundance of activities and thematic spaces are situated. The soil from the pond’s excavation was used to create he park’s rich, undulating landforms, echoing the scenic rolling mountains of Shaanxi Province. These landforms play a key role in the design of the park’s “adventure playground” and 2km long jogging track. The parks planting design offer visitors a rich array of dynamic “sceneries”, such as mountainous forests, woodlands, lakefronts, wetlands, and shade gardens, all of which were carefully designed to look stunning in each of Taiyuan’s 4 distinct seasons.
